Recently, Indian Customs decided to hold an auction at Nhava Sheva Port to clear out goods that have been detained for a long time and have not been cleared due to cargo interest issues. This move is aimed at solving terminal congestion problems caused by the surge in cargo volume and ensuring smooth flow of goods. It is understood that with the continuous development of international trade, the cargo volume of Nhava Sheva Port has increased year by year. However, this also brings about a serious problem: abandoned or long-term stranded import and export containers pile up at the terminal, seriously hindering the speed of cargo flow. These discarded goods are usually stacked in customs bonded warehouses or container yards, taking up valuable storage space and further exacerbating terminal congestion.
To solve this problem, Indian Customs decided to take action. According to an announcement issued last week, Nhava Sheva Cargo Terminal is required to immediately report to the authorities all export cargo that remains in the customs bonded area after processing the waybill. However, Customs made it clear that any goods confiscated by investigative agencies or court orders will not be included in the auction. The auction will see the goods appraised by government-approved valuers and disposed of via electronic auction. The move aims to ensure fairness and transparency in the auction process while maximizing the recovery of the value of stranded goods.
