On the 12th local time, the Suez Canal Authority announced its decision to impose an additional fee of US$5,000 on ships that refuse or are unable to accept mooring services from May 1st.

The Suez Canal Authority also announced new mooring and lighting service charges. According to the new regulations, each passing vessel will be charged a total fixed mooring and lighting service fee of US$3,500. If a passing vessel requires lighting services or the lights do not comply with navigation regulations, the lighting service rate in the preceding paragraph will be increased by US$1,000, totaling US$4,500, including mooring and lighting services.It is understood that the Suez Canal is an important shipping channel connecting Europe, Asia and Africa. However, due to tensions in the Red Sea and the diversion of a large number of ships, the number of ships passing through the Suez Canal has dropped by 40%.Last Monday ( March 4 ), Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, revealed in an interview with a local TV station that the Suez Canal’s revenue has dropped by 50% since January.
